New House, New Pace Of Life

Image
So, himself, who was having a tough last two years in his job was looking for an out and wanting something a complete change of pace for himself, and for us, after all we had been through.  This change came in the form of a redundancy. A gift! After almost twenty five years working for a company which totally undervalued him, he was finally free, and with the package he got, and my savings, we decided to buy a house which we could then convert to a holiday home business. Himself started the search while I was working, and the first house we booked a visit for was the one! That was it, we were in love. The location, the house, the vibes, the garden, un beatable. It was tough to continue viewing other houses when we had seen that one, which was outside our budget, but as the search continued, we realised that the first house was really great value when you factored in the business side. So we made an offer, it got accepted we went through the arduous process with the banks and then f...

La Selva / Our Passion Project

Image
We cleared, we spruced, we churned the earth, we spent a fortune, and we kept busy. I am proud of our little corner, and even if we will most likely part ways with it soon, it will have served its purpose in providing us with an activity to mend our broken hearts and heal our grief. We spent many a weekend with some foldable chairs, snacks, beers and great conversation about plans and various topics, and it was a haven and a means to get out of the city. We made friends with a fantastic guy called Manel who owns an excavation company and who has been invaluable in helping us prim and shape the land into something more attractive, accessible and with great potential.

We bought some land! 🍃

We searched in lleida.... And searched in tarragona until finally in Girona... 1.3 hectares, 5mins from the town of Santa Coloma de Farners, with trees and terraces formerly used as a vinyard leading down to a little stream that flows in colder seasons. The perfect getaway for the weekend. It's classified as "rústico" which means that you can't build, but who knows... Down them line we may find a way. 😋

Love, happiness, loss, grief and Esperanza March to August 2016

Image
2016 started off as the happiest of my life.  I was  pregnant, we were expecting a  gitl. Finally after 4 years of heart ache,  worry,  stress, and sadness our dreams of having a family were finally becoming real. Then, one day at the end of March, at 34 weeks, our final ultrasound became the door to hell that opened and what would follow would easily the most difficult experience I have ever had in my life. They found stains on her little heart. Then countless visits to Vall d’Hebrón hospital with various experts,  and tortuous waits in waiting rooms with happy mums to be revealed that she had a rare disease called Tuberous Sclerosis that had spread to her brain. This would mean a life in and out of hospitals and a wide spectrum of symptoms such as autism, behavioural issues, learning disabilities, organ failures, epilepsy...not a life at all by any standards. We took our time and weighed our options with great care and compassion. Our hearts and minds wer...

Honeymoon in the land of Gauchos, Maté and Dulce de Leche

Image
Having saved for so long to go to Uruguay well  before our engagement it was only fitting to choose this destination for our honeymoon. I am so glad we did! We packed so much in the 16 nights; Montevideo, Puna del Este, Colonia del Sacramento, Buenos Aires, Punta del Diablo, Thermas Arapey in Salto... Montevideo, UR Punta del Este, UR The highlight for me has to be the beautiful Posado (guesthouse) that we stayed in in Colonia called la Casa de los Limoneros. It  was our wedding gift from Josi and Lou and it was the prettiest place in the world. We had the entire house to ourselves and were treated like royalty. Our bedroom had the best view overlooking the grounds with the swimming pool and the ponds and the lemon grove with a view of the sea on the horizon. There was a bottle of champagne in a cooler surrounded by rose petals in the shape of a heart and all we could hear was a light breeze from the open window and at night there was a cacaphony of frogs and stran...

We Are Married!

Image
The most fantstsic weekend ever, concluded over a year's organisation and planning at it sure paid off! We had 98 Visitors from all over the world crammmed into a weekend of celebrating eating and drinking in a beautiful Masia perched on a hill overlooking vinyards and olive groves in the beautiful state of Tarragona south of Barcelona. The ceremony took place on Friday evening at 6pm after an afternoon of running around with lastminute planning and preparations, and getting ready. It was out doors in a small area with palm trees, a red carpet and some chairs on either side. I made my entrance down the steps from the small bridal hut, to the sound of "Stir It Up" by Bob Marley and we had readings and poems and a song from Stephanie in Irish to Dad playing the Uilleann Pipes, and finally when we were declared husband and wife after me accepting with a "Claro Que Si" we walked down the aisle together to the sound of Barry Louis Polar's "All I Want Is ...
