Honeymoon in the land of Gauchos, Maté and Dulce de Leche
Having saved for so long to go to Uruguay well before our engagement it was only fitting to choose this destination for our honeymoon. I am so glad we did! We packed so much in the 16 nights; Montevideo, Puna del Este, Colonia del Sacramento, Buenos Aires, Punta del Diablo, Thermas Arapey in Salto...
The highlight for me has to be the beautiful Posado (guesthouse) that we stayed in in Colonia called la Casa de los Limoneros. It was our wedding gift from Josi and Lou and it was the prettiest place in the world. We had the entire house to ourselves and were treated like royalty. Our bedroom had the best view overlooking the grounds with the swimming pool and the ponds and the lemon grove with a view of the sea on the horizon. There was a bottle of champagne in a cooler surrounded by rose petals in the shape of a heart and all we could hear was a light breeze from the open window and at night there was a cacaphony of frogs and strange creatures emminating from the ponds.
We spent a day walking around Buenos Aires having taken the ferry across the sea inlay from Colonia. The weekend we spent in Punta del Diablo next to the Brasilian border was summery, with its beautuful white sandy dunes that we rolled over on Gabi's Quad bike, and a view overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the brief but remedial overnight stay in the Arapey Thermal Hotel in Salto in the north of the country bathing in thermal water was just fantastic!
