New House, New Pace Of Life
So, himself, who was having a tough last two years in his job was looking for an out and wanting something a complete change of pace for himself, and for us, after all we had been through.
This change came in the form of a redundancy. A gift! After almost twenty five years working for a company which totally undervalued him, he was finally free, and with the package he got, and my savings, we decided to buy a house which we could then convert to a holiday home business.
Himself started the search while I was working, and the first house we booked a visit for was the one! That was it, we were in love. The location, the house, the vibes, the garden, un beatable. It was tough to continue viewing other houses when we had seen that one, which was outside our budget, but as the search continued, we realised that the first house was really great value when you factored in the business side.
So we made an offer, it got accepted we went through the arduous process with the banks and then finally the day came to sign. Our lending bank made a mess of the whole experience by arriving an hour late with the cheque, but thankfully the owners were adorable and patient and the deal was done. They were an elderly couple with three adult children with families of their own and were looking to downsize. There was another dimension to the experience when we learned that the wife was french and that they had lost their son in a car crash the year before, hence the urgency. We said our goodbyes and the husband was great when he met at the house the next day to give us a tour of the house and leave us an incredibly organised folder with the paperwork of the house, vendor contacts, bills etc.
Arriving at OUR house after signing that afternoon on 31st July 2019, coming up to the door, putting the key in the lock and realising that this place was ours, is a sensation I will never forget.
